Special Subjects

The music program at Westbrook Park is exciting. In addition to performing in a classroom setting, there are many other performance opportunities for students in grades 3 – 5. The third grade strings perform in the Spring Concert. The fourth and fifth grade band and chorus students perform in the winter and the spring concerts. An auditioned vocal ensemble also performs in both concerts, as well as special events such as the Volunteer Tea, District Gala, Awards Assembly, and parades. The fifth grade class also looks forward to their participation in the Talent Show in the spring.

The Art Curriculum at Westbrook Park enables our students to develop an understanding of Art Knowledge, Art Concepts and Art Skills. The curriculum also harvests an appreciation for Art in each of our students. This enables the students in each grade level to recall their knowledge of art, its concepts, and its skills in order to enhance their own creative process when they produce their own original artwork. Our Art Curriculum produces young artists that will grow into confident artistic adults that have an appreciation for art. Westbrook Park art students have the opportunity to participate in the annual school district's art show. It takes place at the end of every school year at Upper Darby High School. This event is coordinated by all of the art teachers in the entire school district. Artwork from every grade level is hung up in the hallways of the high school for display. It is always free admission and it is always open to the public.

The Westbrook Park Library program supports Upper Darby School District's reading program by combining the key skills and strategies taught in the classroom with the themes from the Social Studies program. It also teaches students how to be information literate, socially responsible, independent learners through its core library program. This approach helps children to apply the skills they are learning outside of their classrooms and to make the connections necessary to reinforce and retain what they have learned. The Westbrook Park Library participates in the Library Legacy Program. Through the years Westbrook Park parents have dedicated books to their children thereby helping to establish a library filled with beautiful books.

Physical Education

The Westbrook Park School physical education program is a vital part of our school, contributing to the growth of the student through development of the physical mental, emotional, and social elements of total fitness. Westbrook Park also has a Marine Corp. physical fitness team, an intramural program for 4th and 5th graders, and an annual school wide jump rope contest. The school year concludes with a Color Day Event, which includes many of the activities performed during the year.
